It is Australia's first fab lab (fabrication laboratory) within the MIT international network of Labs. In the late 1960s photographer Adelaide de Menil and artist Bill Reid explored the Northwest Coast from the Straits of Georgia to Southeast Alaska. During their travels they made a record of the monumental art and architecture of Coastal First Nations. De Menil captured the old village sites on film while Reid used words to express the feelings evoked by the ancient sculptures. Their work was published in the volume Out of the Silence (1971). Only 62 of over 800 of de Menil's prints were published in that volume. 500 of these images are now on display at the Bill Reid Gallery, including 22 that were selected for printing by guest curator, Peter Morin, in the current exhibition Revisiting the Silence (March 3, 2011 to June 5, 2012).
Adelaide, Australia, is one of the nation’s most striking cities. Situated over the River Torrens and overlooking the Gulf of St. Vincent, Adelaide is the perfect combination of big-city living and outdoor beauty. Start out your Adelaide sightseeing by watching the sunrise at the beach, followed by a cup of tea or coffee at one of the many cafes around Victoria Square. The square is the heart of the city grid, and from there you can easily walk to some of Adelaide’s most striking 19th-century buildings. The nearby St. Francis Xavier Cathedral towers over Wakefield Street, and the Adelaide Central Market is a wonderful place to find fresh produce. Just a few blocks north of Victoria Square is the South Australian Museum, where you can learn about the region’s history—both European and th...

http://www.expedia.com/Adelaide-and-vicinity.d6051330.Destination-Travel-Guides Adelaide is the capital of South Australia and is situated close to the Great Southern Ocean. It is a compact beachside city that is full of churches, stone buildings and beautiful parklands. This picturesque city is unusual amongst Australian cities in that it was founded by free settlers, not convicts. Those early founders put a lot of passion into creating a better life for themselves even though they were many thousands of miles from home. Because of that history, Adelaide has a unique sense of refinement and beauty. One of the most popular places to visit is Victoria Square which is right in the heart of the city. From here, it is easy to wander along the North Terrace District and admire the gracefu...
Kangaroo Island is an incredible place to visit in Australia. The island is Australia’s second largest (after Tasmania) and is located close to Adelaide in the state of South Australia. A short car ride followed by a scenic ferry trip brings you to this wildlife paradise. There are lots of things to do on the island from diving and sand boarding to tasting local wines. Where Kangaroo Island really comes to life is its great nature and wildlife. The coastline is amazingly beautiful and wildlife such as Kangaroos, Wallabies (and even very shy Koalas) can be found everywhere. You could stay for a week on Kangaroo Island (and some people never leave), but 3 days is a great amount of time to explore the best of Kangaroo Island. What to do and where to go on your 3 Days on Kangaroo Island? See i...
